Dear Curious travelers who want to experience Rome beyond the obvious,
In this guide, you'll find the Rome I’ve built in my head by walking it. I live in the Centro Storico (Historic Center) and explore mostly on foot, photographing plaques, fragments, courtyards, and odd details that catch my eye, then going home to research what they are. When friends visiting Rome kept asking which places were actually worth their time, I started making a list. This is that list: ancient ruins, Caravaggios, strange churches, hidden courtyards, underground surprises, restaurants, wine bars, shops, and stories you could easily walk straight past.
About the author
I’m Lisa Ellzey, an American film producer who moved to Italy in 2021 and to Rome in 2022. I live in the historic center and divide my time between Rome and Praia a Mare on the Calabrian coast. Before moving to Italy, I spent more than twenty-five years making movies at 20th Century Fox, Lionsgate, EuropaCorp and Scott Free. Maybe that’s why I’m drawn to Rome’s rejected plans, rivalries, scandals and second drafts behind the masterpieces. This guide is the Rome I’ve discovered by living here, walking everywhere and being chronically curious.
